Students playing arcade basketball game

On Thursday, March 30th, students got the chance to show off their basketball skills at Penn State Campus Residential Dining’s 13th annual March Madness Tournament held at Redifer Commons.

Recruitment for the best basketball players began at 5:30 p.m. and all sixteen spots were filled within the first half hour.  Participants were ready to shoot some hoops for grand prizes such as: bikes, an Xbox One, an apple watch, Beat headphones and many more.  Although, those prizes were only awarded to the top players, all players received some PSU swag.

As the DJ blasted today’s top hits, students gathered around the basketball court to see all the action. Since candidates knew the winner would also get a trophy, the pressure was on! With all the yelling and chanting, from one minute to another, Redifer turned into a miniature Beaver Stadium.  While some friends were rooting each other on, others were singing along to Fetty Wap.

Bystanders also joined in on the fun by receiving free samples and giveaways from companies such as Frito-Lay, Pepsico and General Mills. Chips and refreshments were handed out to everyone as well.

As sixteen turned into top four, the room filled with energy and excitement leading to an intense final game. With a high score of 88 points, the all-star winner excitingly took his trophy and Xbox One home.
