Renovated East Food District Offers Variety of New Options
Students returning to Penn State University Park after winter break were greeted by a new East Food District. Upon completion of renovations to Findlay Dining Commons, new options include an expanded convenience store and an extensive buffet.
Market East, situated on the ground floor of Findlay and replacing Good 2 Go, features more than 3,000 square feet of shopping space. The convenience store features a variety of options for snacks and healthy choices, including fruit, vegetables, and yogurt. Market East also offers a large selection of frozen foods as well as coffee machines and even a milkshake machine.
Jim Meinecke, residential dining coordinator, has seen a lot of happy students so far this semester. “The students really love how many options Market East provides,” he says. “It’s a one-stop shop for almost all of their needs.”
Other food services options on the ground floor serve breakfast all day, as well as fresh-pressed burgers. A new full-service coffee shop, featuring Seattle’s Best coffee and a selection of desserts and baked goods, rounds out the ground-floor options.
The second floor of Findlay’s two-story atrium features a new buffet with a menu that changes daily. Recent buffet selections included Chicken Tandoori, garlic roast pork, macaroni and cheese, Naan, and much more. “The students are excited to have all the choices that come with the all-you-care-to-eat location,” Meinecke says.
Other retail food areas on the second floor include pizza, deli, sushi, a burrito station, and a salad station. An allergen-free station, which will open after spring break, will offer kosher foods, gluten-free options, and selections free of other common food allergens.
While hours of operation for the dining units vary, students will find convenient options available from early morning to late night.
